Our editors

James Bass

James Bass received his Ph.D. in American Literature from the University of Iowa and did coursework in the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop. He has over 12 years experience in editing scientific manuscripts in a wide variety of areas including chemistry, biology, nuclear engineering, and many others, with a focus on medicine, having edited articles that have been published in such top-tier journals as New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, and Circulation. He has also ghostwritten articles in the areas of cancer research, family medicine, and lipid physiology. His interest in the humanities has also allowed him to consult on and ghostwrite manuscripts dealing with personal and family history.

Mike Lankford

Mike Lankford received his MFA in fiction from the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop and is the author of a critically acclaimed personal memoir, Life in Doubletime (Chronicle Books 1997). He has over ten years experience editing and teaching writing on the post-secondary level, having ghostwritten or consulted on many works of fiction and nonfiction. Mike’s proficient criticism and encouragement has led many of his students to pursue writing careers.

Paul Casella

Paul Casella received his MFA from the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop and is a published poet. He has 15 years scientific editing and writing experience for individual clients and corporations, as well as experience in editing family histories. He is the co-author of Writing, Speaking, and Communication Skills for Health Care Professionals (Yale University Press 2001) and is currently Consultant to the Faculty of the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine in the areas of writing and oral communication.
